Seminar Inspires Beginners to Take Gardening Seriously - By Ther Ling Kwok
What spiritual implication does agriculture have for our salvation? This was answered by Bob Gregory and Bob Jorgensen, speakers at the Agriculture Weekend held July 2-4.
"As a result of the weekend, over half the participants said they now feel the urgency of starting their own gardens," said Elvin Easton, the event's organizer. "They came prepared with a myriad of beginner questions, and I believe they went home enthused."
The speakers emphasized the importance of agriculture to the physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing of God's last day remnant people, and gave scriptural evidence to support their messages.
Spiritual factors aside, the benefits of organic and home-grown produce and dangers of genetically modified food are also incentives for learning to grow our own food, the speakers said. "This will change the way I shop for my family at the grocery store," said one participant. Another remarked, "I'll consider buying more organic produce."
Despite heavy rain earlier in the day, demonstrations were held Sunday at the greenhouse on double digging and garden bed preparation. About 150 people, including families with children, attended the seminar. Many were first-time gardeners this season, or are planning to start a garden after this event.
